2022 AGM and Open Day

2022 AGM and Open day

On March 19th, the sun shone on Wigtownshire for the first in-person Scottish Dorset Breeders’ Club AGM.

Maud Walker and her family of the Dupin Flock, very kindly hosted the incredible open day, which had been rescheduled from 2020 due to the pandemic and was attended by breeders from across Scotland and Northern England.

It was great to see a tremendous Flock of Dorset’s thriving on Whaup Hill. It is safe to say most were envious of the lush grass dominating the landscape.

Open day

The open day kicked off with a delicious lunch, allowing everyone to catch up with old friends and speak with new breeders and local farmers.

Lunch was followed by a stock judging competition consisting of classes of Ewes, Gimmers, Ewe lambs and Dairy Calves .James Royan of the Bennachie Flock, was asked to be the Judge on the day. An unenviable task with such quality stock on show, however James was brilliant and shared his explanation for his scoring with the crowd which allowed those unfamiliar with the Dorset the opportunity to gain an understanding of the desired characteristics of the breed.

Charity Auction

The champion ewe lamb chosen by James Royan was very generously put up for auction for charity by the Dupin flock. Local auctioneer Andrew Hunter Blair undertook proceedings which resulted in a fantastic value of £410. She was bought by departing chairman Alistair Morton. A collection bucket was also passed round and in total over £1,000 was raised for Alzheimer’s Scotland and Cancer Research. Thank you to everyone who bid on the charity lot and put their hand in their pockets and made a donation to the two worthy charities which are extremely meaningful to the Walker family.

We would like to thank Maud, Jamie, Ruth and Ella for their wonderful hospitality and hard work which went in to hosting such a fabulous day. It was well worth the two year wait!
